SOUTHPORT ATLANTIC

As a  U.S.based international ship sale and purchase broker, we specialize in contracting for construction of new buildings, sales of second-hand vessels for continued operation, and demolition sales of old and redundant tonnage.

We started out in 1989 as Atlantic Shipbrokers Inc. and entered into a cooperation agreement with tanker brokers Southport Maritime in 1998 when we moved with them into new offices and began trading under the name Southport Atlantic.

Our international clientele is spread worldwide but concentrated mainly in North and South America. We have concluded ship sale transactions or newbuilding contracts for independent ship owners, major oil companies, chemical operators, leading fruit producers, American flag operators, offshore support companies, and others. We are also specialists in sales of secondhand and newbuilding floating drydocks to and from shipyards around the world. Our day to day presence in the ship sale and purchase market provides an ideal perspective to act as appraisers of ships and floating drydocks; we carry out regular valuations for shipowners, financial institutions, and government agencies and have conducted fleet valuations for bond issues and IPOs. On occasion members of our team have been appointed to act as expert witnesses on ship values in Federal court.

Some highlights of our business in recent years:

  • We established a tanker pool for major European chemical operators;
  • We contracted for the construction of a series of offshore supply vessels in China, recently delivered;
  • We handled the purchases of several secondhand Panamax tankers for a major conversion project;
  • We delivered several modern stainless steel chemical tankers to client shipowners;
  • We placed an order on behalf of a leading U.S. defense contractor for a large newbuilding floating drydock;
  • We arranged substantial refurbishment and newbuilding contracts with a Black Sea shipyard on behalf of U.S. clients;

       Please see the S&P Report page for our weekly report.
